/ Overview
Fubo’s video player is a core part of the Fubo experience, yet it has consistently drawn user complaints. This project explores what users’ pain points actually are, and how better usability and a more polished design can give them a better viewing experience
/ The problem
User feedback analysis highlighted major pain points, led by 170 complaints regarding Performance & Reliability and 117 issues concerning Quality & Resolution. Additionally, 55 complaints were tied to Audio & Sync and Ads, alongside usability issues such as hidden program descriptions, hard-to-find content titles, and unclear distinctions between Live and VOD

/ Opportunities framing
How might we help Fubo CTV viewers stay in the player, from discovering what to watch next to enjoying uninterrupted playback? I found three opportunities.
Opportunity 1
Discovery
While Fubo offers a channel schedule and a 'browse while watching' feature, it only displays live programs—failing to fully capitalize on the user's desire to stay in the player while discovering a broader range of content seamlessly.
Opportunity 2
Immersive
The absence of a clear exit path back to the video, combined with full-screen coverage, created significant friction, severely disrupting the viewing experience and driving up user complaints.
Opportunity 3
Clarity
The interface was overloaded with controls, creating confusion for users who reported uncertainty about what each button or action would perform.

By analyzing TV user behavior, we defined clear user goals and identified key opportunities. Building upon these insights, we proposed new design directions, refined the solutions through continuous design iterations, and ultimately finalized and launched the design to the market.

Drove a 30% reduction in video player complaints, delivering a noticeably smoother viewing experience while establishing an ongoing feedback loop for continuous UX enhancement.
